…MERRY CHRISTMAS Hoboken, New Jersey!

On December 20, 2016, the City of Hoboken and BASF Corporation closed a deal that will transform a greater than 6-acre former industrial property to a public park in 2017. AMO Environmental Decisions, serving as BASF’s environmental consultant, performed all final site assessment and remedial actions to clear the property for this beneficial reuse.

AMO’s environmental closure work involved the synthesis of nearly 40,000 analytical records associated with more than 1,100 soil samples collected from more than 400 locations beneath and proximal to the site into a site-specific GIS database, and evaluation of the data relative to applicable USEPA and NJDEP cleanup standards. Between late 2015 and early 2016, we designed and directed remedial actions to remove soil contaminated by PCBs at levels above 10 mg/kg. The work was completed following our Remedial Action Work Plan (Self Implementing Plan), which was approved by NJDEP and USEPA’s Region 2 Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) division. A total of 4,733 yards3 of soil were removed from the site and disposed at appropriately-licensed facilities during this remedial action. The entire property was then capped with a 6-inch thick asphalt cap.

In addition to hands-on investigative and remedial actions, AMO spearheaded all final closure activities through preparation of BASF’s Remedial Investigation and Remedial Action Report for Soil, Deed Notice and Notice in Lieu of Deed Notice documents, Remedial Action Permit application, and drafting of the Licensed Site Remediation Professional’s (LSRP’s) Response Action Outcome (RAO) statement. Results of our work enables High Occupancy property use, as defined under USEPA-TSCA (40 CFR §761), and recreational use under NJDEP’s Site Remediation Reform Act (SRRA).

BASF’s Project Director praised the team’s work by saying, “I just wanted to thank everyone that worked on this project to bring it to a successful completion in such a short period of time. The drive, innovation and commitment to solving all the challenges we faced in the remediation of this site was second to none. I appreciate the time and hard work that went in to making this happen.”

AMO Awarded Geotechnical & Environmental Sampling Contract; Commences Field Work

…And from the front lines of the environmental service sector-some of the news that is fit to print:

AMO Environmental Decisions Inc. was recently (July 2016) awarded a geotechnical and environmental sampling contract to support CH2MHill with the design and installation of a new potable water distribution system associated with the Pohatcong Valley Groundwater Contamination Superfund Site in Central New Jersey.

AMO is proud to provide geologic interpretation, environmental sampling, and geophysical mapping techniques to assist CH2MHill’s effort in fulfilling the requirements of their contract with the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE; Kansas City District).  The work supports remedial efforts established by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA; Region 2) under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA).  AMO services include permitting, bonding, geophysical investigation & utility clearance, geotechnical investigation, traffic control, concrete coring, waste management, and surveying.

If you would like additional information regarding AMO’s role in this project, any of our other ongoing endeavors, or information as to how we can bring our talents and experience to assist with your environmental decisions (see what I did there…cute, right), please reach out to us.

…It’s About Time

AMOED_Watermark1Geology is the study of time and pressure (yup-right out of The Shawshank Redemption)…and by its very nature involves processes occurring over a long period of time.  That’s the eloquent way of inferring geologists tend to move at a bit slower…let’s just say we move at our own unique pace.  Some sciences measure events in seconds; geologist measure events in years…millions of years.  Geologic processes are also unique in their creation of new landscape through the destruction of previous terrain.

AMOED_Watermark1While AMO Environmental Decisions have been providing environmental consulting services ranging from preliminary site assessments to large-scale soil & groundwater remediation design and oversight since 2002, it has taken until 2016 to provide the internet-connected world with a fresh landscape.  Small disclosure here…when it comes to providing unique solutions to satisfy environmental conditions and meeting project objectives & timeframes, we are aces; when it comes to keeping up with appearances…not so much!  We’re working on the latter, but left to our own accord, we prefer the geologic timescale to the hands of a watch.  In matters of the former, we may be small but we are strong.

We are a diversely talented group of geologists, hydrogeologists, environmental scientists, geophysicists & GIS Analysts working with a supporting cast of engineers, biologists, soil scientists, analytical laboratories, and drilling & excavation contractors.  AMO’s technical staff brings over 150 years of scientific and regulatory experience to solve the most complex environmental quandaries.

So welcome and thanks for stopping by!  Please feel free to reach out to any and all of us.  It is our intention to keep this space updated with breaking news (remember breaking news is in reference to geologic time), company events, projects of interest, and trending industry topics.  A sort of ongoing, informal introduction to who we are, what we do, where we are headed, and the unique ways we are getting there.  A means for clients, potential clients, contractors, vendors, suppliers, regulators, and weary web travelers to see how they fit into our AMO family and how we can all help in making sound, pragmatic,  and responsible Environmental Decisions.
